Each email returns a status and sub-status:

• Valid — mailbox exists and accepts email
• Invalid — address doesn't exist or domain has no MX
• Catch-all — domain accepts all addresses (can't verify specific mailbox)
• Spamtrap — known spam trap address
• Abuse — address associated with abuse complaints
• Do not mail — role-based, disposable, or known problematic
• Unknown — couldn't determine status (timeout, temporary issue)

AI Quality Score

ZeroBounce's AI scoring rates each address 0-10 based on engagement likelihood. Higher scores indicate addresses more likely to be active and engaged. This goes beyond binary valid/invalid and helps with list prioritization.

Data Appending

Included with validation:

• First and last name (when available)
• Gender
• Location (city, state, country)
• Account creation date
• IP address associated with signup

Useful for segmentation but accuracy varies. Don't rely on appended data for critical business decisions.

Practitioner note: ZeroBounce's spam trap detection has caught addresses that other validators missed.
